About Us

Puerto Rico Agricultural Biotechnology Industry Association (PRABIA) was founded in 1995. It’s main function is to promote the development of the research and production of genetically improved seed in Puerto Rico. We are a non profit organization. We have had a substantial agricultural economic impact currently having over 2,758 employees and sown over 5.526 acres per year (Oct. 2009).
Current crops worked on the island:

  • Rice
  • Sorghum
  • Cotton
  • Sunflower
  • Beans
  • Tomato
  • Peanuts

Among the features of the crops developed are:

  • Resistance to pests and diseases
  • Drought and herbicide tolerance
  • High yield and nutritional value seed production
